Youth myki free public transport

From 1 January 2026, children aged 5–17 can travel free on Victorian public transport using a Youth myki. The card costs $5.

The youth entitlement is age-based: under 18. Ages 4 and under already travel free without myki. Use a Youth myki, not a bank card/contactless substitute. Some V/Line journeys require a $0 paper ticket obtained using the card, and interstate surcharges can remain payable. Free youth eligibility ends at 18.

What to prepare

  • Obtain and carry a Youth myki; obtain a paper ticket for services that require one.
  • For an online purchase, follow the official myki account requirements. A universal document-upload checklist was not identified in the reviewed public guidance.
