Patient Assistance Transport Scheme (PATS)
Help with eligible specialist medical travel and accommodation. Eligible private-car travel from 1 July 2026 attracts 34.4 cents per kilometre.

Usually requires permanent SA residence, Medicare and travel over 100 km each way to the nearest eligible specialist. Limited cumulative-travel rules cover some 50–100 km renal or oncology trips. This is not a general fuel rebate.
What to prepare
- Medicare and bank details
- Specialist-certified attendance form; referral evidence if required
- Transport or accommodation invoices where claimed; no fuel receipts for private cars
